Bridge Collapse — Civil Infrastructure Project
A major bridge construction project suffered a partial collapse, damaging the structure and extending the construction schedule.
The professionals of RT Forensic Accountants assisted the insured to prepare the builders risk claim, substantiating both the hard costs of repairing the damaged structure and the soft costs caused by the delay.

- Builders risk: hard costs and delay-related soft costs
- Scale
- Project delayed more than six months; claim exceeded $90 million
The Loss
The collapse required significant repair work on the damaged structure and pushed out the construction period. The longer schedule drove additional costs across the project, well beyond the physical repairs.
The Process
We substantiated the hard costs of repairing the structure and separately quantified the delay-related soft costs, including equipment rental, extended general conditions, expediting expenses, architect and engineering fees, testing and inspection, and other additional costs of construction.
The Results
A builders risk claim exceeding $90 million was presented to insurers with hard and soft costs clearly separated and each category supported, giving the adjustment team a complete picture of the cost of the collapse.
